Moodboard

Welcome back everyone! In todays class we had to pretend we are a set designer and create our own sets! We had to include things such as location, props, actors, costume, lighting, etc. I decided to make my sets the following images you'll see down below! I hope you enjoy.

Ballroom!

For my ballroom mood board, I chose chandeliers, masks, and fancy gowns to create an atmosphere of mystery and power. The dark reds and gold, paired with the warm lighting, were used to emphasize glamour while hinting at some secrecy. I made these choices to show eliteness, mystery, and elegance. I wanted the audience to assume the characters are of high society, people who are elite but may also be hiding secrets beneath their masks. My goal was for the audience to respond with both admiration for the ballroom and curiosity about what was going on within it.

1950's Diner!

In this set, I chose images of milkshakes, burgers, and fries, as well as a waitress in her uniform, and pink and blue booths with checkered floors. I picked these pictures to show how bright and lively the atmosphere was during this time period. I wanted the audience to assume that the characters are having fun and being social. The colors and props are designed to give a sense of nostalgia, making the diner more than just a place to eat, but a place where people can go to listen to music and hang out! My goal was for the audience to respond with excitement and a sense of nostalgia, almost as if they were stepping back in time to a welcoming place.

Graveyard!

For my graveyard mood board, I chose foggy trees, tombstones, a dark statue, a crow, and a person sitting by a grave holding flowers. These choices create a somber and eerie atmosphere that makes the setting feel emotional and dark. I wanted the audience to assume that the characters are experiencing loss or just unknowingness. I wanted the audience to feel curious or unsettled, as if something frightening could happen at any moment.

Abandoned Circus!

For my abandoned circus mood board, I chose faded tents, hanging dolls, broken signs, and empty rooms. These images all use cooler and darker tones, which help create a cold, unsettling, and mysterious atmosphere. I made these choices to create a set that feels eerie and scary, a place that was once happy but has now been replaced by emptiness and fear. I wanted the audience to assume that the characters entering this space are in danger or uncertain about what they will find. My goal was for the audience to feel uncomfortable and curious, as the mood board gives off a sense of being forgotten, where something frightening could happen.
